The 1st Winter Children of Asia Games

In 2016, according to the initiative of the Head of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) Yegor Afanasyevich Borisov, the International Committee of Games "Children of Asia" decided to hold the First Winter International Sports Games "Children of Asia". (hereinafter - The 1st winter ISG "Children of Asia").
The 1st International sports winter games "Children of Asia" were held in order to promote the ideas of the Olympic Movement, the development of children's and youth sports and the strengthening of international sports cooperation, in accordance with the Game Concept, approved by the International Committee of the Games "Children of Asia".
The main contender for the 1st Winter ISG "Children of Asia" was Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, Sakhalin region, which hosted the Games in 2019. Favorable climate, snow and warm winter, transport accessibility of sports facilities, availability of hotel infrastructure, and availability of catering facilities - all these factors are of great importance for the games.
Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk meets all these requirements, where they are created, and now all the necessary conditions for sports, leisure, and entertainment for young athletes are created.
Like the summer ISG "Children of Asia", the1st winter games were held under the patronage of the President of the Russian Federation, UNESCO and the International Olympic Committee, and with the full support of the Government of the Russian Federation, the Olympic Council of Asia, the Russian Olympic Committee, and the Russian Ministry of Sport.
Kinds of sports:
During the first winter ISG "Children of Asia", competitions were organized for 8 kinds of sports, such as:
- figure skating;
- hockey;
- short track;
- skiing;
- snowboard;
- biathlon;
- ski race;
- Ski jumping.
Dates of the Games:
The 1st winter International sports games "Children of Asia" were held from 8 to 17 February 2019. Day of arrival - February 8, departure day - February 17.
Age of participants:
The age of participants was 17 years and younger (01/01/2002 of birth and younger).
According to the Concept of International Sports Games "Children of Asia", the age of participants at the time of the competition should be 16 years and younger, but in connection with the 1st Winter International Games "Children of Asia" in 2019, it was decided to leave the age of participants unchanged, that did not change the concept of the Games, and also allowed using the Games as a platform for preparing participants for the Youth Olympic Games.
Judges:
Games served more than 450 qualified judges that meet the requirements of international federations on sports. According to the Regulations of the Games, the Organizing Committee for some sports invited judges from participating countries. Particular attention was paid to the high level of refereeing and ensuring its full compliance with international requirements, fair play standards, and rules.
Torch relay:
In addition to the competitive part of the Games, the International Children's Asia Games Committee organized and conducted a Torch Relay 100 days before the start of the Games.
Traditionally, the ceremony of lighting the fire of the 1st Winter International Sports Games "Children of Asia" took place in the "Lena Pillars" National park in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), from where the fire visited all settlements of the Sakhalin region and finished during the opening ceremony of the Games in the city of Yuzhno -Sakhalinsk.
